Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a tiny sleepy town. This part of the island known as West Island can be confusing for those who aren't familiar of its purpose. They often believe it's an island to the west of Montreal however the West Island encompasses everything between the two cities of Lachine and West. Amanda Brugel's birthplace has been frequently referenced, however her brief stay wasn't. Brugel grew in Courtice close to Oshawa. The first goal she had was to become an expert dancer. Then, a growth spurt caused her to outgrow all of the dance partners she was able to have. In an interview with Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I'm 6 feet 1 inches." As soon as I outgrew my male counterparts then I stopped. A lot of dancers go from dancing into acting. As for Bruce, it was her drama teacher who nudged her in that direction. It was her teacher who advised her to audition to play the character of Anne for their school's annual production. She was chosen to play the main role of Anne of Green Gables after she tried out. After receiving the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she attended York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 2000. Brugel's career spans over 20 years and she has performed in more than 60 shows, both on big screens and on smaller ones. The most well-known role she played was that of Rita (pictured in the below photo) in the television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel, the only Canadian in the Season 1 actors of the series and seen only occasionally, was the only Canadian.
